EAEPL, a repeat client, had to accommodate another vertical – Enviro Watertech, a team of young analysts and engineers to control Industrial & Commercial pollution. Post the remote working during the pandemic, the space was to be designed to invite their young talents at work with an enticing aesthetic and a well-connected destination in Mumbai. The design was therefore, more casual than their Thane Office which housed the corporate setup.
The space was a ‘C’ shaped structure with no windows! Nevertheless, it had a great height and streamlined beams making it look larger without the integration of natural light or the view to the outdoors. We took up this element to our advantage and proposed an open ceiling concept to brighten up the space.
As we said – No Windows. No Problem! We stimulated the workplace with the use of day light fixtures, tall glass partitions with black strong edged frames and a warmth of the greens and wood. The absence of natural light can cause fatigue and low moods. The challenge to keep the spirit of the employees at its peak was essential by building up a sense of belongingness to the space through elements that make them comfortable and focused. We catered to it by opening up the small welcome area with a huge skylight mock in a seamless wooden ceiling. The light spanned through the workspace and the enclosures making the entrant cheer-up even after entering the windowless space. The distribution of task lights in a broken geometric grid also added some spice to the open ceiling office workspace.

The ambience was casual with a foretaste of an industrial look but enhanced with the warmth of wood and greens. The Welcome area showcased a layered wooden mural inspired by the wave from the logo. We kept the backdrop transparent yet diffused with a fluted glass to keep the expanse unbroken. The lounges at the welcome area and behind the backdrop, were linked through a continuous ceiling to make it look grander. An angle to the glass partitions was intentional to give some dynamics to the space. The glass film was also inspired from the wave of the logo.
The grey hues were applied with variations of materials from tiles to carpets and Concrete wallpapers to the Corian counters. The blue of the logo was executed on the soft boards and graphics with a contrast in the furniture. The open workspace exhibited a quote by Robert Swan that justified the business – “The Greatest Threat To Our Planet is the Belief that Someone Else Will Save It”, which is motivational and engaging in itself. We implemented the branding through a few more words in the form of scrabble displaying the values and missions of the company.
This weaving of elements to make the space functional with limited access to the day-light made us as architects and designers merge lighting as the preliminary design component with the aesthetics for the young minds.
